This partnership matters because it brings together community, legacy, and mental health impact. Through the Phillip Thomas Memorial Tournament, Alberta Tennis Centre is helping honour Phillip's memory while supporting CMHA Calgary's broader work to provide mental health programs, resources, and connection across our community, including EQUIPPED, our youth-focused mental health resource.

The Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) has been supporting mental health and well-being in our community since 1955. Through education, peer support, housing, and community-based programs, CMHA Calgary helps individuals build resilience, find connection, and move forward in their recovery journeys.
What started as a focus on awareness and advocacy has grown into a community-based model of care — one that meets people where they are, supports recovery in real, practical ways, and responds to the complexity of modern mental health needs. For decades, CMHA Calgary has been part of a broader movement to advance mental health across Canada, while remaining shaped by the community it serves right here in Calgary.
THE IMPACT
Mental health education creates real, immediate change. During a recent YouthSMART Suicide Prevention session with Grade 10 students at St. Francis High School, several students reached out to book appointments with school counsellors after just the first day of programming, some concerned about friends, others seeking support for themselves.
By giving young people the knowledge, language, and confidence to ask for help, CMHA Calgary is helping build school communities where support is accessible and no one has to face challenges alone.

SUPPORT THE CAUSE
The tournament exists to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health programs through CMHA Calgary — including EQUIPPED, a resource created specifically for young adults and launched in memory of Phillip. In 2025, the tournament raised $15,000 for CMHA Calgary, and the 2026 edition aims to grow that impact even further.
If you'd like to contribute, donations can be made directly to CMHA Calgary and are eligible for a tax receipt.
